Keyword Uniformity

Uniformity is to self replicate the same store everywhere according to Eric Schlosser in Fast Food Nation.  It is the same standardize of a particular type of way something is made like beef. The automobile assembly line was the first example of this. Uniformity is also used in dress codes that schools use to have everyone look the same. In the book Fast Food Nation Eric Schlosser it’s the same McDonalds that serve the same Big Mac the same way.  Uniformity is bad because forces wages lower and the common worker don’t have unions or rights.  In many different aspects we find uniformity but is there a need for balance? Should are whole lives as human beings become the same get up go to school until you need a job to do the same thing over, and over again with no passion or option for advancement. There must be diversity in order to thrive it’s what runs New York and what will keep the economy from being monopolized by elite.

Encroachment

Encroachment is a term used in the book Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser.  The definition giving in he book is the practice of similar franchises been close to each other. When stores that are identical are around each other, the business becomes more completive and sales are decreased. Many franchisees hate it because it is cutting down on profit and they still have to pay the same fees for renting the franchise. This is becoming more and more common as we see, anywhere there is a Starbucks, this is a Dunkin Donuts near by or another Starbucks in order to try and still make great profit store owners try and work together to maximize profits for both stores. This was a great ideal except for the fact that the franchisor would tell them it is conflicting the policy that they agree upon and tried to sue the franchisees for trying to do it.
